Dont believe it!!

The developer says the banner problem is fixed in this new version - well, there is still a banner running across the screen so I dont know what he means by fixed. If a developer doesnt want to offer a reduced-featured free version of his game, then fine, dont do it. Simple as that. Dont ruin it by begging someone to buy your full app. If your full app doesnt have the features to warrant the price, then fix that!
